2013-12-09 The University of La Plata (Argentina) organized two conferences on December 3rd, International Basque Language Day. Professor César Arrondo and Basque Language and Culture reader Idurre Lekuona offered lectures on “Basque Language at the UNLP” and “The survival of the Basque Language”. To complete the event the attendees paid tribute to all those who have worked in favour of the survival and diffusion the Basque language.
2013-12-05 On the International Day of the Basque Language, on December 3rd, the manager of the “Euskara Munduan” program (HABE), gave a lecture on “Language Politicies in the Basque Country 1982-2011” at the Leipzig University. The lecture was given in Basque Language and translated into English, French and German by students of interpretation. Students of the Etxepare Basque Institute Basque Language and Culture readership, students of translation and students of the minority language bachelor students attended the conference. On December 17th Angel Erro will also travel to Leipzig: he will offer a queer poetry reading -“Miss Pelotaris Favoritoak”- at Horns Erben bar in Südvorstadten. The event will be in Basque Language, Spanish and German.
2013-11-29 The Etxepare Basque Institute and the University of Liverpool have organized the first Manuel Irujo Lecture at the university. The lecture, held yesterday, brought toghether Mari Jose Olaziregi, Director for the Diffusion and Promotion of Basque Language of the Institute, University responsibles, Irujo’s relatives, Professor Ludger Mess, writer Iban Zaldua and the Associate Professor of the Center for the Basque Studies at the University of Nevada Xabier Irujo Ametzaga -the latter by video conference-. In addition, they offered an audiovisual about the life of Irujo and realized a visit to the Manuel Irujo’s London and Paris exile books, recently doanted to the University by the family. 2013-11-27 The jury of the Spanish Theater National Prize has just announced that the 2013 award will recognize Ramón Barea, Basque actor, director, playwright and producer, who they define as “a total theater man”. More info on eitb.com
2013-11-27 This year the Etxepare Basque Institute will celebrate the Basque Language Day (December 3) in Brussels. The Institute and the Fédération des Jeunesses Musicales Wallonie-Bruxelles have produced the program “Fenêtre Ouverte sur le Pays Basque”, that aims to present the diversity of our culture and different forms of Basque artistic expression. The program, that has already begun, will be held until December 4 in Brussels and other spots Wallonia.
